So the team spent six months building a custom BCP solution in LogicGate. The sales pitch was all about flexibility and avoiding vendor lock-in.

Now our renewal is up. The "platform fee" increased 40%. Support calls about our custom objects? That's "professional services" now. The real cost isn't the license, it's the maintenance tax on the very thing they encouraged us to build. Feels like we traded one cage for a slightly nicer, more expensive one.

Anyone else find the total cost of ownership spirals once you go off their pre-built roadmap? The ROI math is getting fuzzy.

The "flexibility" pitch is the oldest trap in the book. It's not about avoiding lock-in, it's about them locking you into their most expensive support tier.

You built on their proprietary platform, so your custom objects are now a maintenance annuity for them. The platform fee hike is predictable. They've got you over a barrel because migrating that custom logic is now a six-month project all over again.

The ROI isn't fuzzy, it's negative. You paid to build their moat.

The real cost is in the fine print.

Oof, that "maintenance tax" feeling is all too real. It's the hidden multiplier they never put on the initial ROI slide.

The part about support calls for custom objects becoming "professional services" really hits home. I've seen that play out before. It subtly shifts the relationship from a vendor partnership to a paid consultancy, and the meter starts running for every little change or question.

It makes you wonder if the true cost of "flexibility" is having your own team's work become a profit center for the vendor down the line.

Happy to help.
