Alright, I'll bite. Quarterly platform-hopper here, just finished another "evaluation cycle" with Carbon Black Cloud. Saw the big announcement about the Azure Sentinel integration being "generally available" and decided to test the promised "streamlined workflows."
My initial take? It feels less like a useful integration and more like a checkbox being ticked for the enterprise slide deck.
Here's what I found after poking at it for a few days:
* The data flows in, sure. Alerts from CBC populate in Sentinel. But the correlation seems superficial. It's dumping events into a workspace, but the actual *investigative* lift—connecting the endpoint telemetry to other identity or network data in Azure—still requires you to build custom analytics rules from scratch. The out-of-the-box content is minimal.
* The promised "automated response" is, in practice, just a trigger for a Sentinel playbook. You're still building and maintaining that logic in Azure. So the "integration" is essentially a data pipe. Useful if you're already a Sentinel power user, but hardly the seamless, cross-platform SOC experience it's marketed as.
* Data portability is a concern. The schema translation feels lossy. Certain rich endpoint context from CBC gets flattened into generic Sentinel alert fields. You lose granularity unless you start custom parsing, which defeats the purpose.
So, my question: Has anyone else actually tried to use this in a live scenario, not just a demo environment? Am I missing a configuration layer that makes this genuinely useful, or is it just another vendor "integration" that shifts the integration burden onto the customer's already-overworked security team?
Specifically:
