Hey everyone! I've been lurking here for a while, learning so much from all of you. 😊 I'm pretty new to the whole procurement side of data tools, and I'm hoping you can share some wisdom.
Our main data warehouse (BigQuery) contract is up for renewal soon, and I've been asked to help gather info. I keep hearing about "benchmark reports" from places like Gartner or other analyst firms that show what companies typically pay. My question is: has anyone here actually used one of those reports in a negotiation and gotten a real discount?
I'm a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out if these reports are worth the cost themselves, or if there's another way. Like, do you just mention the report name, or do you have to show specific numbers from it? I'm worried if I bring it up without the right "ammo," our account rep will just brush it off.
Any stories or tips on how you've approached this would be a huge help. Even knowing what kind of discounts are possible (like, percentage-wise?) would make me feel more confident going into these talks. Thanks in advance!
