Just caught the news from Freshworks. They're merging Freshdesk (their help desk) and Freshchat (live chat) into a single, unified "customer service suite." This is a big move for a lot of us who've been piecing together tools on a budget.
For years, many bootstrapped teams, mine included, had to choose: do we pay for a full Freshdesk license for ticketing *and* reporting, or use the cheaper (or even free) Freshchat for basic live chat? We went with Freshchat for chat and used a separate, simpler ticketing system because the combined cost was too high at our scale. The friction of having two systems was real—context switching, missed handoffs, messy analytics.
Now with the merger, the key questions for budget-conscious ops are:
* **Pricing & Packaging:** Will they offer a truly scaled-down, affordable tier for small teams? Or will this just force you into a more expensive bundle for features you don't all need?
* **Omnichannel Reality:** Does "unified" mean a single inbox for email, chat, WhatsApp, and social comments *at a reasonable price*? That's the holy grail.
* **Routing & Workflows:** Can you now easily convert a chat conversation into a tracked ticket with the same thread history? This was clunky before.
* **Reporting:** Will we finally get a single dashboard showing customer journey metrics from first chat touch to ticket resolution?
I'm cautiously optimistic. If they get the pricing right, this could be a game-changer for startups wanting a "good enough" all-in-one without Zendesk's price tag. But I'm worried it'll just be a price hike in disguise.
What's your read? Anyone using both products today who can guess how the integration might shake out?
