We switched to FortiSASE last month. Our main goal was better security for remote staff.
Since we turned it on, the number of "internet is slow" tickets from our team has literally doubled. Everything feels laggy, especially video calls and large file uploads. Our previous setup (basic VPN) didn't have these complaints.
We're on their base "Secure Access" plan. Support just says our connection meets requirements and suggests upgrading tiers. Not seeing the value if the core experience is worse.
Has anyone else hit this? Is there a setting we missed, or is this just the performance tax?
Yeah, that "meets requirements" line from support is frustrating. It means their default traffic inspection is probably running in flow-based proxy mode, which adds latency.
You might be hitting the default inspection profile for all traffic. Look for the SSL/SSH Inspection policy. If it's on, that's a major bottleneck for video calls and uploads. Try creating a rule that excludes trusted SaaS apps (like your video conferencing and file sharing) from deep inspection, or at least moves them to a certificate-inspection-only profile.
Also, check the FortiSASE PoP location for your users. If it's routing them through a distant data center, that's your problem. Their base plan might have fewer PoPs.
