Has anyone tried using a CDP like mParticle as the core of their attribution?

Hi everyone! I'm still pretty new to the DevOps side of things, but my team is starting to look at our data pipeline and attribution.

We're exploring using a Customer Data Platform (CDP) to centralize everything. I keep hearing about mParticle. Has anyone here tried using a CDP like that as the actual *core* for your attribution modeling, instead of a dedicated attribution platform?

I'm trying to understand the pros and cons from a technical standpoint. Does it handle things like cross-device matching and cookieless measurement well enough on its own? Or do you end up needing to pipe the data out to another tool anyway? Would love any real-world experiences. 😊

Great question. We tried this exact approach a couple years back and ended up backing off. mParticle is fantastic for collecting and unifying event streams, no doubt. But we found its core attribution modeling, especially for complex multi-touch or algorithmic models, to be pretty rigid compared to something like Singular or AppsFlyer.

The cross-device and cookieless stuff works okay out of the box, but you'll likely need to enrich those unified profiles with offline data or deterministic IDs from your own backend to get real accuracy. That meant we were piping the data to a warehouse and then to a dedicated tool anyway, which kind of defeated the "core" purpose for us.

So I'd say it can work as a simple attribution core if your models are basic (like last-click). For anything sophisticated, you'll probably end up using it more as the high-quality input pipe to a dedicated platform. Would be curious what others found on the cookieless side specifically.
