Alright, let's get this out there. Every time I'm evaluating a new analytics platform—be it for observability, vulnerability scanning dashboards, or user behavior analytics—and I hit that "contact us" button on the pricing page, my internal alarm bells go off.
It's a classic vendor power move, dressed up as 'flexibility.' What it really means is:
* You have no way to forecast your own costs until you're already in a sales negotiation.
* The pricing model is almost certainly convoluted (per ingested GB, per query, per 'active user,' plus premiums for SSO or compliance features like audit logs).
* They intend to hook you with a 'custom' pilot deal and then hammer you on the renewal once you've built dependencies.
I work in security. We need to budget for tools, often annually. How am I supposed to build a business case when the only answer is "it depends, let's talk"? It depends on what, exactly? How badly they think they can squeeze us?
Give me a public price list, even if it's complex. Let me see the cost per million events, the seat license tiers, the data retention add-ons. Otherwise, this isn't a pricing page—it's a lead-generation funnel. The lack of transparency feels intentionally anti-buyer, designed to obscure the true cost until you're too invested to walk away.
Prove me wrong.
