Hey everyone, I just logged into my You.com account and got a notification about updated usage limits. Looks like the free tier now has a daily search cap of 30 searches.
I’ve been using the free version for a few weeks to help with market research for our small team’s new project, and this feels like a pretty big reduction. I’m sure I was doing more than that on some days when I was deep in a rabbit hole! 😅
For those of you who use the free plan, how is this going to affect your workflow? I mostly use it for quick competitor lookups and brainstorming content ideas. Will 30 searches be enough for basic SaaS and project management research, do you think?
Also, I’m curious about the paid plans now. If I hit that limit, is the jump to Pro worth it for someone who isn’t a developer, but just needs it for general business and productivity stuff?
The 30-search limit changes the fundamental use case from an exploratory tool to a verification tool. For basic SaaS lookups where you already know the company names, 30 might suffice. The constraint will hit hardest during the divergent thinking phase of brainstorming, where you're following chains of related ideas.
You should analyze your own search logs if possible. Break your usage into two categories: directed searches for known entities and open-ended exploratory queries. The latter will become prohibitively expensive under this new limit.
On the jump to Pro, you need to calculate your cost per search. If your research directly influences product decisions or content strategy that generates revenue, the paid tier can be justified as a business intelligence tool. If it's primarily for personal productivity, the value is harder to quantify.
