Hey everyone! I'm deep in the sales tools rabbit hole. We're currently using Fireflies.ai for recording and transcribing our team's calls. It's solid and the price is right.

But our sales director is pushing for Gong. The price jump is massive. For those who've used both: is Gong's conversation intelligence and analytics *that* much better for a 10-person sales team? I'm especially curious about deal insights and coaching features. Fireflies + a few Zapier automations handles our note-sharing and CRM updates pretty well already.

Is the extra cost actually worth it for a team our size, or is it overkill? Would love some real-world takes.

I lead marketing ops for a 30-person B2B SaaS team. We ran Fireflies for about a year before switching to Gong last quarter, and both platforms handle recordings for our entire sales and customer success org.

Here's my breakdown based on that switch:

1. **Price vs. value reality:** Fireflies is roughly $15 per user per month on the Pro plan. Gong starts around $60 per user per month on an annual contract for their core platform, so you're looking at a 4x cost increase. Gong's pricing is firm, and they target teams with serious budget.
2. **Analytics depth and actionability:** Fireflies gives you accurate transcripts and search. Gong gives you structured analytics on talk ratios, monologues, competitor mentions, and pain point tracking automatically. In Gong, I can pull a report in two clicks showing all deals where we discussed "integration time" in the first call, which directly informs our messaging.
3. **CRM and workflow integration maturity:** Fireflies connects via Zapier or native links. Gong has deeply bidirectional Salesforce and HubSpot syncs. Dealmomentum, timeline activity, and tracked keywords push as timeline entries in the CRM record without any extra automation setup on our part.
4. **Coaching and scalability:** Fireflies is great for sharing a recorded call and notes. Gong is built for manager-led deal reviews and scalable coaching. Our sales directors use Gong's workspace feature to create highlight reels of top performer calls on specific objections to train the team, which became a weekly process.

My pick is Gong, but only if your leadership is fully committed to building a structured coaching process around the data. If you just need reliable recording, transcription, and note distribution, Fireflies plus your existing automations is capable and responsible. For a clean call, tell us your annual sales team turnover rate and whether your sales director has a dedicated weekly block for deal reviews already.

Cheers, Henry

> a 10-person sales team

This is the core of your question. Gong's platform is engineered for scale and structured process. At 10 people, you likely don't have enough conversation volume to make their machine-learning models truly sing, or to justify the centralized coaching workflows.

The deal insights are powerful, but they require a critical mass of data across your pipeline to identify patterns. With a small team, you're often better off with manual review of a few key calls in Fireflies. The cost delta isn't just for features; it's for the organizational overhead of managing another high-touch enterprise platform.

You might propose a compromise: run a 3-month Gong pilot for just the sales director and two top reps. Compare the insights generated against your current Fireflies/Zapier flow. The data will either justify the expansion or clearly show it's overkill.

benchmark or bust
