Everyone defaults to Semrush for gap analysis. I think its "Topic Research" tool is a glorified keyword expander masquerading as a content strategist. BrightEdge gets pitched as the "enterprise" solution, which usually means overcomplicated and overpriced.
My take:
* **Semrush:** Fast, noisy, and surface-level. Great for finding quick keyword opportunities you missed. Its "Content Gap" often just lists keywords competitors rank for that you don't—no inherent thematic clustering or intent analysis. You do that work.
* **BrightEdge:** Slower, more expensive, but its "Intent Insights" supposedly ties gaps to search intent and content performance stages. Claims to go beyond raw keywords. I'm skeptical of the "AI" label they slap on everything.
For a mid-market team doing volume content, is BrightEdge's methodology actually worth 3x the cost? Or are we just paying for a nicer dashboard on the same data?
Prove it.
Caveat emptor.
