Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to the HR software world, focusing on onboarding and people analytics at a small but scaling tech company. We've recently started using Stripe to handle invoicing for our B2B services, and I wanted to share our experience so far and ask for yours.
We chose Stripe for its developer-friendly reputation and clean API, hoping to integrate it smoothly with our internal systems. The setup was indeed straightforward for card payments. However, for true B2B invoicing (net-30 terms, PO-based billing), we’ve hit some unexpected snags. The dashboard and default invoice templates seem heavily geared toward B2C or instant payment. Managing a simple aging report or applying a partial payment against an invoice feels more manual than I anticipated.
Specifically, the lack of native purchase order number support on invoices was a surprise—we've had to add it as a custom field, which then doesn't flow through to reporting cleanly. Also, the dunning (automatic payment retry and reminder) settings for invoices felt less configurable than we needed for different client agreements.
Has anyone else run into similar issues? I’d be very grateful to hear how you’ve navigated them, or if you found a workaround within Stripe or moved to a specialized B2B invoicing layer. Our finance team is asking for clearer visibility into what’s outstanding versus what’s simply pending client approval, and I’m not sure Stripe’s reporting gives us that out of the box.
Thank you in advance for any insights you can offer.
