Just built a hybrid system using Customer.io for segments and Postmark for sends.

After years of dealing with the cost and deliverability trade-offs of single-vendor ESPs, I decided to decouple my core marketing components. The goal was simple: use the best tool for each job and control costs.

Here's the breakdown:
* **Customer.io** handles all our behavioral event tracking, segmentation, and complex journey logic. Their API for real-time segmentation is solid.
* **Postmark** is our dedicated sending engine for all transactional emails and targeted bulk campaigns. Their deliverability stats and support are consistently top-tier.

The primary driver was TCO. Using a "full-stack" marketing cloud for high-volume transactional sends was financially punitive. By isolating the sends to Postmark, we're paying a fraction of the cost per message. Customer.io's pricing, while not cheap, is justified for the complex logic we run.

Initial integration was straightforward via their respective APIs. The flow is: event triggers in our app → segment update in Customer.io → API call to our middleware → Postmark sends the rendered template.

I'm now in the optimization phase and looking for others who have gone down this path.

* How are you handling template synchronization? Maintaining two template libraries (one for journey logic in Customer.io, one for the actual HTML/CSS in Postmark) is a pain point.
* What about link tracking and click analytics? We're currently relying on Postmark's data and piping it back, but it's not as seamless as a single platform.
* Has anyone negotiated better rates with either vendor by committing to specific volumes across this split architecture? I'm approaching renewal soon.
