I’ve been through a few incident management platforms over the years, and there’s a pattern I can’t ignore: the mobile experience is almost always an afterthought. It’s baffling, given that a primary use case for these tools is to notify and enable action from anywhere, at any time.
I’m not asking for a full dashboarding suite on my phone. But the basics should be solid. Reliable push notifications that actually work when the app is in the background. A clear, quick way to acknowledge an alert and see the relevant runbook steps without pinching and zooming. The ability to join a bridge or update status without three separate taps and a loading spinner. Yet, so many apps feel like a stripped-down, buggy web view that struggles with basic connectivity.
It creates a real problem. If the mobile app is frustrating or unreliable, people start bypassing it—relying on SMS or other fallbacks, which defeats the purpose of having a centralized tool. It hurts the feedback loop, too, because post-incident details aren’t captured in the moment.
Has anyone found a tool that gets this right? I’m less interested in feature lists and more in real-world usability when you’re woken up at 3 AM. What’s actually working for your teams?
