Hi everyone! 👋 Been lurking here for a bit but this is my first real post. I usually live in the marketing tools side of the forum, but our company is finally looking at a proper HRIS/payroll system and I got pulled into the evaluation team (guess they liked my A/B testing spreadsheets!).
We’re a 200-person tech company, fully remote across the US. We’ve outgrown our patchwork of systems and need something that can handle payroll, benefits, onboarding, and ideally play nice with our sales and marketing stack.
Right now, the shortlist is down to **Rippling** and **Paylocity**. I’ve done demos for both and have some strong first impressions, but would love to hear from teams who’ve actually lived with them.
Here’s where my head’s at:
**Rippling**
* The big wow factor is the app/device management. It feels like an IT platform that *also* does HR, which is cool but maybe overkill?
* Workflows seem incredibly powerful and visual, almost like a marketing automation canvas. Setting up automated onboarding tasks looks like a dream.
* The integration list is insane—they even have direct syncs with tools like Segment and Salesforce, which got my marketing automation brain very excited.
* My main worry is complexity. It feels like you could configure yourself into a corner if you’re not careful.
**Paylocity**
* Felt more “HR-native” from the demo. The interface was less flashy but maybe more straightforward for the People team’s core needs.
* Really liked their community and learning modules—seems great for culture and engagement.
* Their support and implementation model was emphasized heavily, which is reassuring.
* The integrations seemed solid but more traditional (major ERPs, etc.). Less of that “connect-anything” vibe.
My burning questions for those with experience:
1. **Payroll emergencies:** When something has gone wrong with a payroll run, how fast and effective was the support response for each platform?
2. **The daily grind:** For a tech-savvy but not HR-expert team, which one ends up feeling more intuitive day-to-day? I don’t want our managers to avoid using it because it’s clunky.
3. **True cost:** Beyond the base per-employee price, where did you find hidden costs or needed add-ons?
Really appreciate any insights you can share! Our team is leaning one way, but I want to make sure we’re not missing any red flags or hidden gems.
