So Wiz has finally rolled out "enhanced data residency controls." I saw the announcement and the immediate flurry of "GDPR-compliant!" headlines from the usual suspects. Let's hold the champagne for a moment.

The core offering now allows you to pin *all* your resource data—metadata, findings, the whole shebang—to a single region. On paper, that sounds like what the regulators have been asking for. But the devil is in the definitions. Does "all data" include the telemetry from their agents? What about the backend analytics they use for their own "AI-driven insights"? Their documentation gets notably fuzzier when you drill down into data categories labeled "global."

And let's talk about the practicalities. If you're a multinational, but you have to choose *one* region to lock everything down, how does that impact your teams in other geographies? Are we looking at performance hits, or is this just a contractual checkbox that doesn't reflect the actual data flow architecture? I've seen this play before: a vendor announces "data residency" to quell legal fears, but the implementation is a hollow shell that crumbles under a real architectural review.

I'm skeptical this is the silver bullet for EU requirements. It feels more like a reaction to the pressure from competitors who've been shouting about this for years. Does this actually move the needle, or is it just a feature parity catch-up dressed in marketing glitter? I want to see a real, third-party audit of the data flows, not another glossy case study.
