Hi everyone. I’m new here and hoping to get some advice. My team is in the middle of evaluating SD-WAN solutions, and we’re under a lot of pressure to modernize our old MPLS setup.
We were really impressed with the Versa SE demo. The interface looked clean, and the feature set seemed perfect for our needs—especially the security integration. So we set up a proof of concept in our lab to test with a simulation of about 500 branch office devices.
Here’s where we hit a wall. The POC configuration just... couldn’t handle it. Performance degraded significantly, and we started seeing timeouts and instability that weren’t present at all in the smaller-scale demo. We followed the setup guides from our sales engineer, but it just didn’t scale.
Has anyone else run into this kind of scaling issue during a POC? I’m nervous because our actual migration plan involves over 600 locations eventually. We’re looking at a hybrid cloud model, with some workloads moving to AWS.
Could this be a configuration problem on our end, or is it a known limitation with the SE platform? What kind of realistic timeline should we expect if we need to size things up properly? Any guidance would be a huge help. 😅

Not surprised. The SE hardware spec is critical and sales often demos on the high-end SKU.
Check your POC's actual controller resources during the test - CPU, memory, and disk IOPS. You likely undersized the platform for 500 simulated branches. The scaling guides often assume ideal conditions, not real traffic patterns.
Move to the S or M series for 600 locations. Expect a 6-8 week lead time for proper hardware.
