Anyone migrated from Cisco SASE to Versa? Lessons learned

We just finished a full migration from Cisco SASE to Versa Networks. Our main drivers were cost and wanting more granular analytics for user/application performance.

The process was... revealing. A few key takeaways:

* **Dashboard clarity:** Versa's analytics for app performance (latency, jitter) felt more actionable out-of-the-box. It's easier to tie a user complaint to a specific network path.
* **Policy translation:** Don't assume 1:1 mapping for security policies. We had to rebuild some of our application-aware rules, which took time but resulted in a cleaner setup.
* **The big win:** Significant reduction in our bandwidth costs for the same user base. The trade-off was a steeper initial learning curve for the ops team.

Anyone else made this switch? I'm especially curious about:
* Your experience with Versa's SD-WAN reporting vs. Cisco's.
* Any gotchas during the cutover we might have missed.
* Real-world performance benchmarks you've seen post-migration.

I oversee infrastructure security for a healthcare network with about 70 sites. We made this exact evaluation 18 months ago, running Cisco Viptela for SD-WAN and moving a portion of our fleet to Versa as a proof-of-concept. Here's what I have from that process.

**Mid-Market TCO**: Cisco's licensing was predictable but steep for our application visibility needs. Our Versa quote came in around 40% lower for a comparable branch bundle, primarily because the advanced analytics we wanted were in a mid-tier SKU with Cisco but included in Versa's base.
**Deployment Model Difference**: Cisco felt like a unified hardware+cloud rollout. Versa was more of a software overlay on our existing whitebox CPEs. The initial config took about 20% longer per site because we had to define more parameters upfront, but we gained granular control.
**Analytics and Troubleshooting**: Versa's reporting on per-application latency and loss was indeed more actionable. A specific example: identifying that a telehealth app's latency spike was tied to a specific internet breakout path took one click in Versa versus navigating three dashboards in Cisco. The trade-off is Versa's interface can feel dense at first.
**Support Cadence**: Cisco support followed a strict, ticket-based escalation path. With Versa, we got direct access to an assigned engineer early on, which sped up our POC. However, for critical severity 1 issues, Cisco's global response network felt more definitive and process-driven, which matters in regulated industries.

My recommendation depends heavily on two things: your in-house operational maturity and your compliance overhead. For a team that values deep visibility and has time to tailor policies, Versa is a strong choice. If your priority is a rock-solid support ladder and standardized deployment playbooks, Cisco's model is safer. Tell us the size of your ops team and if you have any strict compliance frameworks (like HIPAA or PCI) you're binding to the SD-WAN policy.

Yeah, the deployment model difference was a real surprise for us too. That initial config time per site really adds up. We hit a similar snag with the policy translation - it wasn't just about defining parameters, but also rethinking some of our zone-based rules from the ground up. The extra work felt frustrating for the first ten sites, but by site twenty, our templates were so solid that new deployments actually got faster than with our old stack. That granular control you mentioned becomes a real asset once you're over the hump.

I'm curious, did you script any of that initial parameter definition? We ended up building a small Python tool to pre-populate site-specific variables from a CSV, which cut the manual entry pain in half.
