Netskope vs iBoss for a mid-market education customer

Hey everyone, hoping to tap into the collective wisdom here. I'm relatively new to the whole security/SASE world, but my team is evaluating a cloud security platform for our school district (around 5k users). We're a Google Workspace shop, heavy on cloud apps, and our current on-prem proxy feels like it's from the stone age.

We've narrowed it down to Netskope and iBoss, and I'm trying to cut through the sales pitches. The technical deep-dives are a bit overwhelming for me right now.

Does anyone have real-world experience implementing either in a similar mid-market or education setting? I'm especially curious about:

* **Deployment & Management:** Which one had a gentler learning curve? We're a small IT team.
* **Performance Impact:** Any noticeable latency added, especially for video-heavy educational content?
* **Cost Surprises:** The pricing models seem complex. Were there any hidden costs post-deployment?
* **Support:** How responsive were they during setup and for ongoing issues?

I've been buried in datasheets and my head is spinning. Anecdotes about what actually *didn't* work as expected would be super helpful. Like, did anyone run into weird issues with specific learning apps or Chromebook management?

I lead the IT team for a K-12 district of similar size, also fully on Google Workspace, and we went through this exact evaluation last year. We've been running iBoss in production for about 10 months now.

My core breakdown based on that process:

**Deployment & Management:** iBoss was significantly easier to get stood up. We had basic web filtering policy applied in an afternoon. The Netskope Proof of Concept felt more powerful but also required more planning around its architecture (like steering methods). For a small team, iBoss's learning curve is gentler.
**Performance for Educational Content:** This was a major factor. We saw less latency for streaming video (YouTube, etc.) with iBoss in our testing. Netskope's traffic inspection is incredibly thorough, which can add a few extra milliseconds per request. For a school environment where that's the bulk of the traffic, it mattered.
**Cost Structure:** iBoss pricing was simpler for us - a flat per-user, per-year cost that covered all features. Netskope's pricing was modular (you add SWG, CASB, DLP as SKUs) and came out about 20-25% higher for the protection tier we wanted. No major hidden costs with either, but watch out for professional services add-ons with Netskope if your team needs more hand-holding.
**Support & Responsiveness:** iBoss support was faster to answer initial sales engineering questions. Post-sale, both were adequate. However, iBoss support felt more accustomed to the education use-case (common app templates, understanding of CIPA). When we had a weird issue with a niche educational app, iBoss had a pre-existing policy fix.

My pick for your scenario is iBoss, specifically if your top priorities are getting a modern, cloud-based proxy deployed quickly with minimal performance hit for students and a straightforward cost model. If your district's needs skew more toward deep, granular data protection for high-risk data or a heavily regulated environment, then Netskope's strengths might be worth the extra cost and complexity.
