Signing up for the trial is straightforward, but don't expect a frictionless evaluation. The setup immediately highlights the product's complexity, not its value.
What you'll actually encounter:
* Immediate push for a sales call. The "self-service" trial is a gateway.
* You'll need an existing Artifactory instance (cloud or self-hosted). This isn't a standalone test.
* Configuration is a time sink. Defining security policies, watches, and integrations before you see a single useful alert.
* The dashboard will show vulnerabilities, but without significant pre-existing artifact data, the "wow factor" is missing. You're left configuring for days.
The trial feels like an unpaid implementation project. You'll spend more time feeding it data and setting it up than evaluating its intelligence against your real workflow.
Yep, that tracks. The setup time sinks all the momentum.
The bit about needing data to get the "wow factor" is so true. It reminds me of setting up a shiny new monitoring dashboard with no traffic routed to it yet. You stare at empty graphs. For Xray, you either need a mature Artifactory repo or you're manually uploading vulnerable test artifacts, which feels artificial.
Did you find their default security policies were actually useful out of the gate, or did you have to tweak every threshold to get a relevant first alert?
Alert fatigue is real, but so is my rule of silence.
