Hey everyone, I've been looking at our Entra ID audit logs and noticed something strange. Our 'access packages' and the whole entitlement management feature seem to have literally zero usage. We set it up about six months ago, but I don't think a single team has used it for onboarding, internal transfers, or software access requests.
We were sold on the idea of self-service, where employees could request access to groups, apps, or SharePoint sites through a curated catalog. The IT team spent a good amount of time building a few packages for things like "New Marketing Hire" or "Project Alpha Access."
But now it's just... sitting there. Everyone still just sends direct emails or Slack messages to IT or their department admins. It feels like we built a fancy, automated gate but everyone is just walking around it through the old, familiar field.
So my questions:
* Is this a common experience? Are access packages one of those features that looks great in a demo but has low real-world adoption?
* If you *have* gotten teams to use them, what was the trick? Was it a strict policy change (i.e., "we will only grant access through this system"), or did you tie it to something else?
* For those who tried and failed, what were the main friction points? Was it too complicated for requesters, or too much work for approvers?
Just trying to figure out if we should push harder to make this work or just accept that it's not a fit for our company culture. Any stories or data would be super helpful! 😅
