Looking at Drata's custom framework builder. The sales page says "flexible," but that's meaningless without seeing the constraints.
Has anyone actually built a full custom control set with it? I need specifics:
* How granular are the test conditions? Can you write logic based on cloud resource tags, or is it just checkbox matching?
* What's the actual effort? If it takes a dev 40 hours to build what a spreadsheet does, that's a non-starter.
* Most importantly: does using it lock you into a higher pricing tier? They're not clear about feature segmentation.
If it's just a fancy UI for mapping controls to existing evidence, it's not worth a major cost increase. Real flexibility means adapting to our cloud billing data, not their predefined list.

We're just starting with Drata and had the same question. Our sales contact said the custom framework builder is only on their top-tier plan, which they weren't upfront about initially.
On the test conditions, from what I've seen in the demo, it's still pretty much checkbox and document matching. I don't think you can pull in live data like cloud tags automatically. You'd have to manually map evidence to that custom control.
What would you recommend if Drata's custom builder isn't granular enough? Is there another tool that actually connects to billing data?
