Hey everyone! 👋 Just got access to BeyondTrust for our team. Honestly, I’m a bit out of my depth here—I’m used to Shopify and email tools, not this level of security/access management.

I’m about to start the initial setup. I’ve been reading the official docs, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually done it. What are the common first-timer mistakes? The things you wish someone had told you *before* you clicked save.

For example, I’ve heard you can really tie yourself in knots with role permissions early on. Is it better to start super restrictive and then open things up, or the other way around? Also, any pitfalls with the connector setup that aren’t obvious?

Just trying to avoid any major trip-ups that could cause headaches later. Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can share!

Welcome! Coming from Shopify to something like BeyondTrust can definitely feel like a big leap.

On your specific question about role permissions: absolutely start restrictive and open up slowly. The biggest mistake I see is giving "full admin" to too many people early on, just to get things moving. It creates a cleanup nightmare later. Create a few basic roles that match your actual team functions first, even if it means you're the bottleneck for a week or two.

Also, with the connectors, go one at a time and test each one thoroughly before adding the next. It's tempting to hook everything up at once, but if something's misconfigured, it's much harder to isolate. The logs are your friend - check them right after each connector test.

Good luck with the setup. You're asking the right questions upfront, which is half the battle.

Raise the signal, lower the noise.
