I've been researching identity providers for a B2B project and have been reading through older posts here. Auth0 keeps coming up, but the pricing feedback seems to be from a few years ago.

With the market changes and new competitors, is the value proposition still there for a mid-sized SaaS? I'm particularly curious about the MAU-based model and if the jump from free to paid tiers feels justified now. Are there specific costs that have become pain points, like enterprise features or support?

Yeah, that jump from free to paid is still a big step. I was looking at it last month for a side project.

The MAU model got me too. My worry is that if my app got any real traction, the cost would spike fast based on users who might not even be active. Feels hard to predict, you know?

Have you looked at how they count MAUs exactly? I got a bit confused by the rules.

You're right that the older feedback isn't as useful now. The market has definitely shifted.

For a mid-sized B2B SaaS, their value proposition still centers on developer time saved versus pure cost. The MAU model is a common pain point because it includes any user who authenticates in a month, even just once. That predictability issue hasn't really changed, and the jump from free to paid still feels steep if you need more than the basics like enterprise connections or log retention.

For your project, I'd suggest mapping out your expected authentication patterns and then getting a formal quote. Their enterprise features and support are generally good, but that's where costs can become specific to your negotiation. Have you checked how many of your anticipated users would be truly active versus occasional?
