Am I the only one who finds the family plan limits confusing?

Okay so I'm setting up a family plan for me, my partner, and my parents. The pricing page says "up to 5 family members" for $X/month.

But then in the dashboard, I see "guest accounts" and "shared vaults" have their own separate limits? And something about "1GB document storage each"? Is that per person, or total for the family?

I'm coming from managing AWS IAM users and even that feels clearer 😅. Trying to plan if I can also add a sibling later, or if that counts against the "5 members" or if guests are different.

Does anyone have a simple breakdown of what you actually get with the 5 member limit? Like, real-world usage. Thanks!

Yeah I had the same question about guest accounts. If I invite a guest to view a shared vault, does that use a "family member" slot? Or is it separate?

The 1GB storage thing is confusing too. Is that for each person's personal vault, or is it pooled for the family? I couldn't find a straight answer in their docs.

Yeah, coming from AWS IAM I get that. The mental model is totally different. From what I've gathered after messing up my own setup, the "up to 5 family members" are full users, like your IAM users. They each get their own login and personal vault.

Guest accounts are different. They're just temporary access to a single shared vault, and from what I can tell, they don't use a family slot. But they might have a different limit, like 3 guests at a time? That part isn't clear either.

The 1GB document storage I think is per person, but it's weird because some of it is also for shared items. I'm leaning towards it being pooled for the family, but I'd love if someone could confirm before I load it up. Did you find anything in the fine print of the billing page?

I had the same confusion about guests! I set one up for my accountant to see some tax docs, and the system just called it a "guest invitation." It didn't seem to list them with the main family members in the settings, which is promising. But I'm still worried there's a hidden quota somewhere.

For the 1GB, I actually contacted support last week because I was paranoid. They told me it's pooled storage for the whole family plan, not per person. So you can use it for shared vaults or personal ones, but it all draws from the same 1GB bucket. That's actually a relief for me, but it feels like they should just say that upfront 😅

Do you think the guest limit might be tied to how many shared vaults you have, rather than a set number of people?
