Just finished our HubSpot migration from Zoho. Sales team loves it, but the contract had a few surprises 😅

Biggest gotchas for us:
* **"Growth Suite" pricing** sounded great, but we didn't realize the *Marketing Hub* seat minimum is 5 users. We only needed 2 marketing seats. Had to pay for 3 "empty" ones.
* **Contact tier overage fees** are brutal. We're at 12,000 contacts. The jump to the next tier (15k) was quoted at an extra $1,200/year. Negotiated it down a bit by committing to a longer term.
* The **"onboarding special"** is really just pre-paid services. Make sure you use all those hours!

Renewal is in 6 months. Any tips on what to ask for? Looking at adding Sequences, but worried about add-on pricing.

1. I'm a platform engineer at a 200-person fintech, managing a 40-node k8s cluster across dev and prod. We track every dollar spent on infra.

2. Core comparison:
* **Cost model clarity**: Kubecost gives you a per-cluster cost with a straightforward per-node/month fee, plus a volume discount. HubSpot's pricing is opaque per-module with hidden seat minimums and contact tiers. The sticker price is the floor with HubSpot.
* **Overage protection**: Kubecost alerts on spend anomalies before the bill arrives; you can set hard budgets. HubSpot's overages (like contacts) are a retroactive bill shock. You have to notice you're near a tier and beg for a quote.
* **Negotiation leverage**: Kubecost's pricing is based on your k8s node count, which is a hard technical fact. HubSpot's pricing is based on "marketing contacts," a definition they control and can expand at renewal, which happened to us last year.
* **True-up flexibility**: With Kubecost, if you scale your cluster down, your cost drops next month. With HubSpot, moving to a lower contact tier mid-contract is nearly impossible. You're locked into your peak.

3. My pick: For pure cost visibility and control in k8s, Kubecost wins. It's a tool, not a platform lock-in. For your renewal, treat HubSpot like an AWS Enterprise Agreement: everything is negotiable if you have a competing quote. Get clarity on the exact definition of a "marketing contact" in writing before you sign.
