My situation is that my small e-commerce business is finally moving off a very basic analytics setup to a proper CDP. We're looking at a couple of different platforms, and the biggest anxiety point for me and my tiny team is making sure nothing gets lost in translation. We rely so much on our customer event data for simple things like abandoned cart emails and basic segmentation, and the thought of a "silent" failure in the migration where data looks like it moved but is subtly wrong... well, it keeps me up at night.
While researching, I stumbled across this open-source CLI tool called "Event Parity Validator" on GitHub. It seems like it's built specifically for this scary phase of CDP migration. From what I can tell, you can point it at your old CDP's data pipeline and your new one, and it runs comparisons on the fly—checking for schema mismatches, missing properties, or events that just vanish. It even generates a diff report.
I was wondering if anyone here with more experience has ever used something like this? Or maybe there's a similar tool you relied on during your own migration? I'm particularly nervous about the historical event backfill step; our old data is a bit messy, and I'd love a way to validate that the backfilled events in the new CDP actually match the originals in count and structure before we cut over and re-wire all our downstream connectors.
Any personal experiences or thoughts would be so appreciated. I'm trying to go into this migration with as much preparation as possible, but it feels like a huge mountain to climb.
