Hi everyone. I've been tasked with looking into Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) for my company, and I have to admit I'm feeling a bit lost. My background is more in project management and vendor research, so when I start reading about "identity graphs," "unified profiles," and "real-time activation," my head starts to spin.
I understand the basic goal: to bring our customer data from different sources (website, CRM, email) into one place. But when I look at the vendor landscape, it's overwhelming. There seem to be so many, each claiming to do something slightly different.
Could someone help me understand the real, practical starting points for comparing them? For example:
- What are the key questions I should be asking vendors, in plain language?
- Are there specific things I should be looking for in a demo that separate the real functionality from the buzzwords?
- As someone who works a lot with budgets and spreadsheets, what are the common cost structures or hidden costs I should watch out for?
I'm not looking for a vendor recommendation (yet), but more like a framework for how to even begin this evaluation process without getting overwhelmed by the technical jargon. Any guidance from teams who have been through this would be so appreciated.
