Okay, I need to get this off my chest because I'm genuinely confused. I've been trying out Windsurf for the last two weeks after seeing it mentioned here, and I'm struggling to see how it's much more than a really, really good (and expensive) autocomplete.
I came from using Cursor, which felt like it had more "intent." Like, I could ask it to refactor a function or explain a whole block, and it felt like it understood the *project*. With Windsurf, the inline edits are super smooth and the autocomplete is honestly mind-blowing—it finishes my thoughts sometimes—but when I try to do bigger-picture stuff, it feels like I'm just getting fancier completions. It's amazing at the line-by-line, but the "agent" part that's supposed to handle bigger tasks doesn't feel that different?
Maybe I'm using it wrong? I work on a small team managing our web app, and we live in Asana/Notion/Slack. I was hoping for something that could understand the context from tickets or comments, but it feels like I'm still stitching everything together myself.
The price point is the real sticker. For what it is (to me, right now), it feels like a huge jump from other tools. What am I missing? Is there a specific workflow or integration that makes the "agent" side click? I want to love it because the dev experience is smooth, but I can't justify the cost for just better autocomplete.
