Has anyone benchmarked inference speed on an M3 Max vs. cloud?

Hey everyone! 👋 I've been trying out Windsurf for a few weeks on my local setup, and I love the idea of having a fully local AI dev environment. I'm currently using an M2 MacBook Pro for work, but I'm due for an upgrade soon.

My team uses Asana and Slack heavily, and we're all remote, so I'm always looking for tools that speed up my individual workflow without waiting on cloud processing. The promise of instant, offline inference in Windsurf is super appealing for that.

My question: Has anyone done a proper speed comparison between running Windsurf on a top-spec local machine (like an M3 Max with maxed-out RAM) versus using a cloud-based coding AI? I'm trying to figure out if the upgrade to an M3 Max would essentially give me "cloud-like" speed but completely private and without latency.

I'm especially curious about:
* The time from pressing the shortcut to getting a code suggestion.
* How it handles larger files or complex prompts.
* Whether the experience feels "snappy" and uninterrupted compared to waiting for a network round-trip.

I'm still pretty new to evaluating this kind of performance, so any insights or even anecdotal experiences would be super helpful. Thx!
