Just saw someone gushing about how Speechify "revolutionized" their team communication. They made a "playlist" of company updates using different AI voices.
Color me skeptical. The demo was a synthetic voice reading a Slack digest. It sounded like a podcast from the uncanny valley. I'm supposed to believe this is more productive than scanning a text summary?
So I tested it. The "different voices" gimmick is just picking from their standard library. The "custom" part is stitching together pre-written text. The time spent fiddling with voice selection and playback settings far exceeded the time saved for the listener.
This feels like a solution in search of a problem. Real automation would parse the important bits. This just adds a layer of artificial presentation over static text.
Has anyone else actually integrated this into a real workflow, or is it just novelty? What's the actual ROI after the "wow" factor wears off?
