Unpopular opinion: Sora's hype is bigger than its current utility.

Okay, I’m probably going to get some heat for this, but after running it through a few real-world marketing ops scenarios, I think Sora is being overhyped right now. The tech is undeniably cool and the videos are impressive, but for practical martech and lead-gen workflows, it feels like a solution in search of a problem.

Don't get me wrong—I love exploring new tools. The potential for dynamic, personalized video at scale is a marketer's dream. But currently:
* **Control is limited:** It's great for inspiration or generic b-roll, but try generating a video that matches specific brand guidelines, includes a precise CTA overlay, or integrates seamlessly with a CRM-triggered campaign. It's not quite there.
* **Workflow integration is clunky:** I tried to pipe Sora outputs into our email automation for a personalized welcome sequence. The time spent editing and reformatting to meet platform specs negated any efficiency gain.
* **Cost vs. ROI is fuzzy:** For most A/B testing we do on landing pages or ads, simpler, cheaper stock video or quick graphic edits still perform just as well—and are faster to deploy.

I'm excited to see where this goes, especially for rapid prototyping of concepts. But for now, I wouldn't recommend it as a core part of a marketing automation stack. It feels more like a dazzling R&D project than a utility player.

Has anyone else tried to actually implement it into a live campaign or lead-nurture workflow? What was your experience?

Yeah, that workflow integration point really resonates. It reminds me of the early days of some AI-powered code assistants - super impressive in a demo, but a pain to actually fit into your existing pipeline without breaking everything else.

> try generating a video that matches specific brand guidelines

This is the killer. It's like a linter for your video output doesn't exist yet. You can get something visually stunning, but if the hex code for your brand blue is #0033AA and the model keeps spitting out #0066CC, you're stuck manually fixing every single asset. The lack of fine-tuned control turns it from a production tool into just a fancy idea generator for now.

I wonder if the real utility for Sora in the near term is for rapid prototyping of concepts, not final assets. Let it handle the mood board stuff, then hand it off to a human (or more precise tools) for the final, brand-safe version.

Totally see what you mean about the control and integration being clunky. It makes me think of when I first tried automating cloud stuff - the demo is smooth, but making it actually fit into your existing setup is a whole other fight.

> simpler, cheaper stock video... still perform just as well

This is the big one for me too. Until it can reliably hit those strict brand specs without manual fixes every time, it's hard to justify the cost and effort for most production work. Maybe it's just for quick concept pitches right now?

I'm curious, have you found any workarounds for the formatting issues with the email platform, or is it just a manual step for now?
