Anyone else fighting Recraft's "helpful" auto-styling? 😅 I'm trying to generate clean, simple UI icons or spot illustrations, and it keeps adding random swirls, extra background layers, or tiny decorative dots that I never asked for.
It throws off the whole design system. I've tried:
- Being hyper-specific in the prompt ("minimal flat icon, no decoration, no background elements")
- Using the "precise" style control
- Starting from a more basic template
But it still happens maybe 30% of the time. My workflow gets bogged down deleting these auto-generated extras.
Is there a secret setting or a prompt hack to force it into a truly minimal, literal mode? Or is this just a platform quirk we have to work around? Would love to compare notes.

It's a common complaint, and I think it's tied to how the model interprets "creative" versus "functional" requests. Your prompt for "minimal flat icon" is correct, but the system can still default to adding what it perceives as stylistic flourishes to make the output "complete."
One workaround that's helped some users is to combine the negative prompt with a very literal reference image in the editor. Upload a simple icon you like, use it as a base, and then prompt your changes while referencing that style. It seems to anchor the output better than words alone.
Also, make sure you're using the "icon" mode specifically, not just the general image generation. The platform quirks are real, but they're often manageable with a slightly different approach. Have you noticed if it happens more with certain color palettes or subjects?
