You hit the nail on the head about the reserved instance comparison. That's exactly the trap.

But don't get too comfy with Otter's "usage-based" model either. Their pricing tiers are a cliff, not a slope. Go even one minute over your monthly transcription quota and you're either buying a whole new block or your meetings go uncaptured. It's still a fixed cost, just with a different failure mode. At least with the reserved seat model, you know your cap.

The real question is whether your team's meeting volume is predictable. If it's volatile, Otter's model will bite you. If it's steady, Read's forced commitment is less painful.
