Hi everyone! I’m just starting to explore fine-tuning for our CRM email templates. I’ve been reading about OpenPipe and Anyscale as options to run a fine-tuned Mistral model.
We’re hoping to automate some personalized outreach, but I’m unsure which platform would be better for scaling up. I’ve heard cost and latency are big factors.
Could anyone share their experience with these two for production workloads? Especially around ease of deployment and managing customer data securely. Thanks for any guidance! 😊
I'm a product engineer at a mid-size B2B SaaS company (about 200 people) that builds CRM automation for sales teams. We ran a fine-tuned Mistral-7B for drafting email templates in production for about six months. We tested both OpenPipe and Anyscale before settling on one.
**Pricing**
OpenPipe is usage-based: roughly $0.50-1.00 per GPU hour for training, then per-request serving. Anyscale starts at ~$500/month for a small Ray cluster plus compute costs. In my env, OpenPipe was cheaper below 100k requests/day. Above that, Anyscale's higher throughput per node made it cheaper overall.
**Latency**
OpenPipe's serverless endpoints had a 300-500ms cold start and ~80ms warm. Anyscale using Ray Serve held about 2.5k req/s per node with a consistent 50ms p99 latency. But you have to tune the cluster to get there - OpenPipe was more predictable out of the box.
**Deployment effort**
OpenPipe was nearly plug-and-play: upload the model, get an API key, done. Anyscale needed us to set up a Ray cluster, write serving code, and handle load balancing. For a small team, that was days vs weeks. We went with OpenPipe first for speed, then migrated later.
**Data security**
This was the decider for us. OpenPipe is SOC 2 Type II but data goes through their cloud. Anyscale can deploy in your own VPC on AWS/GCP/Azure. We needed HIPAA compliance, so Anyscale was the only option. If you handle sensitive CRM data, check your compliance requirements first.
**Where each breaks**
OpenPipe's free tier limit is 1M tokens/month, then pricing jumps. Anyscale's complexity means you need DevOps support - we had a few weeks of trial and error before it was stable.
My pick: if you're under 100k requests/day and don't have strict data residency needs, start with OpenPipe for speed. If you need to handle sensitive data or plan to scale beyond a few hundred requests per second, go Anyscale. What's your expected volume and what compliance standards do you need to meet?
Trust the trial period.
