I work with small business clients on expense tracking and billing workflows. Some have asked about Notion AI to automate parts of their reporting.

From a consultant's perspective, I'm hesitant to recommend it for core accounting tasks. The AI can help draft summaries or categorize simple lists, but I've found it struggles with consistent data extraction from receipts or generating accurate, audit-ready reports. It feels more like a writing assistant than a reliable accounting tool.

Has anyone successfully integrated it into a client's financial workflow? I'm curious if the table calculations or database automations are robust enough for monthly bookkeeping yet.

Agreed on it being a writing assistant, not an accounting tool. You've nailed the core issue: reliability.

Where I've seen it work is as a pre-processing layer. A client uses it to draft initial expense descriptions from messy notes, then a human (or a proper accounting system) handles the final categorization and figures. The table calculations are basic, and I wouldn't trust them for bookkeeping.

For your question about integrating into a financial workflow, the answer is no, not for anything core. The risk of even minor inaccuracies in data extraction or calculations is too high for reporting. It creates more verification work than it saves.
