I run a tiny consultancy from home, and I’ve been trying to streamline how I create client update videos without spending a fortune or needing a production studio in my spare room.
My main challenge was that I write all my scripts in Google Docs—it’s just where my brain works best—but I dreaded the actual recording part. My voice would get shaky, and I’d waste hours on retakes. I heard about Murf here on the forum and decided to give it a try, but I wanted to connect it to my existing docs automatically. After some trial and error (and a fair bit of anxiety about setting it up wrong), I landed on a workflow that’s been a real game-changer for me.
Here’s how it works: I finish a script in Google Docs. Then, using Zapier, that document automatically sends the text over to Murf. I have a Murf voice preset I like—it’s calm and professional, which helps balance out my sometimes-hesitant writing. Once Murf generates the audio file, it gets pulled into Descript. I use Descript to add simple visuals, some background music, and to make any little tweaks to the pacing. It feels like magic, honestly, to go from a doc to a polished video in a fraction of the time it used to take.
I’m not sure if this is the most efficient way, but it’s working for my small operation. I was wondering if anyone else has tried connecting these tools? I’m particularly curious if there’s a better way to handle the handoff between Murf and Descript, or if I’m missing a step that could improve the audio quality further. Also, if anyone has recommendations for Murf voices that sound warm and natural for business explainers, I’d love to hear them. I’m still experimenting and feel a bit overwhelmed by all the options.
The cost is a concern, of course. I’m on the basic plans for all these services, and it adds up, but so far the time savings have been worth it.
