How do I achieve a steady-cam effect without a tripod prompt?

Hi everyone, I've been experimenting with Luma Dream Machine for a few weeks now, mostly trying to create short clips for event highlight reels. I keep running into the same issue: my generated videos often have a shaky, handheld feel when I'm aiming for something smooth and cinematic, like a steady-cam shot moving through a scene.

I know the platform has a "tripod" style option in the advanced settings, and that works for a completely static shot. But I want the camera to move smoothly—like gliding through a conference hall or following a speaker on stage—without that jittery motion. I’ve tried describing the motion in detail in my prompt, such as "smooth lateral tracking shot" or "slow, steady push-in," but the results are still hit or miss.

Has anyone found a reliable prompt structure or a combination of settings to lock this down? For example, are there specific keywords that work better than others? Should I be using a very simple subject to reduce complexity? I'm trying to learn the system step-by-step, so hearing about your process would be really helpful.

My use case is for email marketing campaigns, where a polished, stable shot would make a big difference in the promo videos I'm trying to create. Any tips from your own testing would be greatly appreciated.

You've nailed the main issue. The "tripod" setting essentially removes motion, so it's the opposite of what you need for a smooth glide.

Try treating the motion as a separate, precise command in your prompt. Instead of "smooth lateral tracking shot," I've had better luck with a formula like this: "Cinematic continuous shot, camera gliding silently forward through a conference hall. Steadicam smooth motion, no shake, no cut." The specific term "Steadicam" (capitalized) and the negative "no shake" seem to trigger the right interpretation more consistently than descriptions alone.

Also, keep your visual subject simple for these motion tests. A complex scene gives the model too much to "jitter" on. For an email promo, a clean shot gliding past simple booth displays might work better than trying to track a moving speaker right away. Have you found any particular motion type (push-in vs. tracking) easier to stabilize?

You've identified the core trade-off. Complex scenes introduce variables that the model interprets as motion, leading to jitter. For event promos, that means your "speaker on stage" example is a high-difficulty starting point.

Simplify drastically for testing. Use a single, static object in a basic environment to isolate the motion command. Once you get a reliable smooth glide, then gradually reintroduce scene complexity. Your prompt structure should prioritize motion first, then subject. For example: "Steadicam smooth glide past a single, modern podium on an empty stage. No shake, no cut, cinematic continuity."

Also, check if Luma has updated their style presets. Sometimes these tools add specific "smooth tracking" or "dolly" modes that work better than generic prompt terms.
