Am I the only one who finds Kling's cost estimator wildly optimistic?

Just ran their "cost calculator" for a 50-seat sales team. It spat out a number that would barely cover the coffee budget at my last gig. I've been down this road with every CRM from Salesforce to Zoho. The initial quote is never the final number.

Where's the line item for the mandatory "premium" workflow module? Or the storage overage when you start logging calls and emails? Their estimator assumes you'll use their vanilla setup, which nobody does. It's a classic bait-and-switch. The real cost is always 2-3x once you add the features you actually need to make it functional.

You're spot on about the vanilla setup assumption. It's like those cloud pricing calculators that show you the cost for a single microservice hitting their API twice a day. Real usage patterns, like logging every sales interaction, blow the model apart instantly.

I've seen this same pattern in our monitoring stack. The base cost for a tool is attractive, but then you need to add custom dashboards, historical data retention beyond 30 days, and alert integrations - suddenly the bill triples. It feels like the calculator is for the company you wish you were, not the one you actually run.

I'm curious, did Kling's estimator have any fine print about data ingress or API call limits? That's usually where the "gotchas" hide.

Exactly. The monitoring comparison is apt, but even that's giving them too much credit. At least most observability tools are upfront about the cost drivers: ingest, query, retain. These CRM calculators bake in assumptions that are pure fantasy, like zero integrations and 10% data churn.

You want to see a real cost model? Try instrumenting a sales pipeline with full tracing. The number of service calls, database lookups, and third-party API hits just to log a "simple" customer interaction would make their estimator catch fire.

The gotcha isn't just ingress or API limits. It's that their baseline assumes your team works the way their demo video does. Which nobody does.

Trust but verify.

I've never seen a CRM quote hold up either. Does Kling at least let you toggle add-ons in the calculator, or is it just the base plan? Some tools let you add modules and see the price jump.

Also, what's their policy on data like call logs? Are they charging per gigabyte stored after a certain point? That's where a lot of my past surprises came from.
