Hey folks, been using HuggingChat a ton for scripting help and brainstorming data pipeline ideas. It's fantastic for the technical stuff, but I've hit a recurring snag.
When I'm using it to help draft messages for my team or write documentation, I often find myself typing prompts like "make this sound more casual" or "rephrase this to be more formal for leadership." It gets me thinking about some other AI assistants I've tried that have a literal 'tone' or 'formality' slider. You just adjust a setting and the output adapts. Wouldn't that be a killer feature here?
Imagine:
* Sliding to "Casual" for quick team Slack reminders.
* "Professional" for project specs or stakeholder emails.
* "Enthusiastic" for community announcements or blog drafts.
* "Succinct" for JIRA ticket comments or code comments.
Right now, it feels like I have to negotiate the tone through trial and error in the prompt itself. A built-in slider would save so many tokens and iterations! It's especially handy for us data folks who might not always nail the "soft skills" wording on the first go.
Am I alone in this? Has anyone developed a workaround or a set of magic tone-prompts they keep handy? Would love to hear your thoughts.

You're definitely not alone in wanting a slider, but I'm always suspicious of those features turning into vanity metrics for the product team. The slider becomes a number on a marketing slide, not a guarantee of consistent output.
The workaround is to treat tone like a system prompt in a config file. I keep a few markdown snippets in a notes app that I paste in when needed. One for "formal_review.md" that sets the audience as a CTO reviewing a postmortem, another for "team_standup.md" that assumes a Slack channel context. It's more manual, but you get deterministic results after a few iterations, unlike a magic slider that might mean something different tomorrow after a model update.
The real problem is that "tone" is contextual, not a single dimension. What's "professional" for a commit message is different from a board report. I'd rather see an API for setting a full persona profile - audience, urgency, comms channel - than a single ambiguous slider.
