Am I the only one who misses the old, simpler pricing plan?

Remember when you could just look at a pricing page and understand what you were buying? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Now Grok’s got more tiers than a wedding cake and more fine print than a cell phone contract.

The old “Pro” plan was straightforward. You paid X, you got Y. Now it’s a labyrinth of “Team,” “Enterprise,” “Creator,” with usage buckets, seat minimums, and nebulous “premium support” add-ons that cost more than the base subscription. Want to use the API at scale? That’s a separate conversation with a sales rep who will definitely try to upsell you on a “strategic partnership.” It’s not a pricing page anymore; it’s a negotiation starting point.

This isn’t progress, it’s a tax on your time. You spend more hours deciphering the cost structure and modeling “what-if” scenarios than you do actually using the tool. And God forbid you need to change plans or scale down. The exit ramps are designed to be inconvenient, if they exist at all.

I get it. They’ve got to make money. But the complexity feels intentional. It obscures the true total cost until you’re already committed, which is the oldest vendor lock-in trick in the book. Just give me a transparent, predictable bill. Or is that too much to ask for in the age of “AI transformation”?

Buyer beware.
