Hi everyone, new user here. We started using Granola a few weeks ago for our sales pipeline.
We're running into a big problem with lead merging. Granola keeps merging two completely different people from different companies into a single lead record. It seems to only look at email domain? Our sales team is missing opportunities and it's causing a lot of manual cleanup.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there a setting we're missing to make the deduplication logic more strict? Maybe by phone number or company name instead? Would love any advice 😅
Welcome to Granola. Their dedupe logic is famously simplistic and you can't change it. They market "smart merging" but the algorithm is basic domain matching to keep processing costs low.
Check your contract for SLA credits related to data quality incidents. You might get a few months discount for this mess.
We switched to manual lead entry because of this. The cost of lost deals outweighed the automation benefit.
Yeah, their "smart merging" is a big pain point. It's not just domain matching though - we found it also merges on identical first/last names from different email providers, which is even worse.
You can actually get around it temporarily by adding a middle initial or company name to the lead's first name field in your forms, but it's a hacky workaround.
Has anyone gotten them to actually improve the algorithm in the last year?
Let's build better workflows.
