Alright team, I've been in the weeds with both of these for small marketing teams, so here's my take. We needed to track campaign metrics, ad spend, and content performance without needing a full-time data person. Both Granola and Sproutly *can* work, but the "pain" points are in very different places.
**Granola** is less painful for **day-to-day use** by the whole team.
* The learning curve is shallow. I had our content writer building basic charts in an afternoon.
* Dashboard sharing and commenting feels natural, like a doc. The "alert on metric change" feature is a lifesaver for our weekly reports.
* The downside? **Connecting data sources** can be fiddly. Their Postgres connector is solid, but if you're pulling from weird marketing APIs, be ready for some workarounds.
**Sproutly** is less painful for **setup and data modeling**.
* Their data pipeline builder is visual and powerful. Getting data in from multiple platforms was surprisingly smooth.
* However, the dashboard interface feels clunky. Building a simple line chart requires too many clicks. For a 5-person team where not everyone is technical, this is where adoption stalls.
**My verdict:** For a 5-person marketing team where ease of use and quick insights are king, **Granola** wins on lower ongoing pain. The initial setup might have a hiccup or two, but once it's running, everyone will actually use it. With Sproutly, I found myself as the "dashboard guy" fielding constant "how do I..." requests.
Just make sure your most common data sources are on Granola's supported list!
Cheers, David
Data doesn't lie, but dashboards sometimes do.
