I've been using Grammarly's browser extension for drafting in web-based editors for a while, mostly in Gmail and Google Docs. I saw the announcement about the official integration with Medium and decided to give it a proper test this week.
The promise is clear: a final check on clarity and tone right before you publish a post. In practice, I found it works much like the extension does elsewhere—it flags complex sentences and passive voice as you write. The key difference is having that final, focused review in the same window where you're about to hit the "Publish" button. It removes one more context switch.
My question is whether this actually changes the workflow meaningfully. Does having it embedded in Medium's editor catch issues you'd otherwise miss when pasting from another tool? Or is it mostly a convenience that saves you from opening a separate tab?
I'm also curious about the tone suggestions. Medium posts often have a distinct, conversational style. Has anyone noticed if the Grammarly feedback aligns well with that, or does it sometimes push you toward a more formal voice than you'd want for the platform?
