How do I get buy-in from management for a tool like Freeplay?

Alright, let's say you've done the demo, you're convinced Freeplay (or a similar GenAI cost tracking tool) could bring some order to the chaos. Now you have to convince the people who sign the checks.

First, forget the feature list. They don't care about "unified cost visibility" or "agentic spend tracking." They care about two things: **risk** and **money saved.**

Your pitch needs to be a business case, not a tech spec. Here's how I'd frame it:

* **Start with the current pain:** Quantify the "shadow spend." How many different teams are spinning up GPT-4, Claude Opus, or embedding models? What's the monthly invoice surprise? Frame it as an unmanaged financial risk.
* **The break-even analysis is non-negotiable:** You need to estimate:
* The tool's annual cost (get a real quote).
* The immediate savings from simply identifying and eliminating wasted spend (e.g., orphaned deployments, over-provisioned models). Even a 10-15% reduction on a large bill pays for the tool itself.
* The projected savings from implementing its recommendations (right-sizing, caching strategies, switching to batch processing). This is your ROI timeline.
* **Speak their language:** Compare it to something they already understand. "This is like a Reserved Instance strategy, but for LLM tokens. We're moving from a variable, unpredictable cost to a managed, optimized one."
* **Pilot it:** Propose a 3-month proof-of-concept with one high-spend team. Tie success metrics directly to cost reduction, not "adoption." Show the before/after numbers.

Without concrete numbers, you're just asking for another SaaS subscription. With them, you're presenting a cost-control initiative.

What's your current monthly LLM spend, and how much of it is actually tracked versus a line item on an AWS bill nobody can explain? Start there.
