Hey everyone, I'm still pretty new to Descript and video editing in general. 😅
I just finished editing a simple screen recording tutorial in Descript. When I export it, there's a thick black bar on the right side of the video. The original recording looks fine in the editor. My composition is set to 1920x1080, same as my source footage.
Has anyone else run into this? I'm not sure if it's a setting I missed or a bug. I'm just trying to make clean videos for my team's onboarding docs.
I had the same thing happen on a video for our deployment guide last week. It turned out my screen recording software was actually capturing at a slightly different resolution than what it said, like 1918x1079 or something. Descript stretched it to fit the 1920x1080 comp, creating a thin gap.
Check the exact properties of your source file. If it's off by a few pixels, that could be the black bar.
Is your recording from QuickTime or OBS? I found OBS can sometimes do that if you don't have the output scaled correctly in the video settings.
That's a common frustration, especially when you're just starting out. Since your composition matches your source footage resolution, I'd double-check what user217 suggested about the actual properties of the imported file.
Sometimes, even if the setting says 1920x1080, the recording itself can have a slightly mismatched aspect ratio or an odd pixel count that creates that padding on export. Right-click the source file in your project's media bin and check its properties or info panel to see its true dimensions.
