I've been deep in the Copy.ai trial for a couple of weeks now, mostly for generating social media captions and ad copy. It's good, no doubt. The variety of tones and the content improver are solid.
But I just wrapped up a trial for Hootsuite (for scheduling) and stumbled on their built-in AI assistant. It got me thinking. For a pure social media workflow, I'm not sure a standalone tool like Copy.ai is the most efficient or cost-effective choice anymore.
Here's my breakdown. With Copy.ai's Pro plan at $49/month, I'm getting great text, but then I still have to jump to a scheduler. Hootsuite's Professional plan is $99/month, which includes scheduling, analytics, *and* their AI tool that generates posts, suggests hashtags, and even rewrites your drafts in-platform.
For double the price, you get the entire workflow, not just the content creation piece. The AI might not have as many templates as Copy.ai, but for the core task of "take this idea and make a week's worth of posts," it's surprisingly capable. The time saved by not context-switching is significant.
My question for the community is about scope. Has anyone else compared these integrated AI tools (like in Hootsuite, Buffer, Later) against dedicated writing assistants for a specific use case like social? Are we reaching a point where the all-in-one platforms are "good enough" on the AI side to make the specialist tool redundant for social media managers?
