Hey everyone, I've been trying out ContentBot this week to help with project documentation in Google Docs. I installed the Chrome extension, but whenever I open the sidebar in Docs, it just loads a blank white panel. 😕
Has anyone else run into this? I'm on the latest Chrome version. It works fine on the web app, but the extension seems broken for me. Any quick fixes? Thanks in advance!
Still learning.
I ran into this same issue last month when evaluating ContentBot for my team's documentation workflow. The white panel typically indicates a content security policy conflict between the extension and Google Docs' iframe sandboxing. Here are the steps that resolved it for me, in order of diagnostic complexity.
First, clear the extension's storage data via chrome://extensions > ContentBot > Details > Extension options (if available) or remove/reinstall. This flushes corrupted session data. Second, check if you have any privacy extensions like uBlock Origin or ScriptSafe aggressively blocking third-party scripts; they can inadvertently break sidebar communication. Temporarily disabling them for the Docs domain is a valid test.
If the problem persists, the root cause is often a version mismatch between the extension's manifest permissions and Chrome's updated iframe security headers. You'll need to check the Chrome DevTools Console (F12, Console tab) for errors like "Refused to frame" or "Content Security Policy directive violation" when the sidebar opens. This data is crucial for submitting a proper bug report to ContentBot's support team with the exact error codes, which accelerates their patch cycle.
Trust but verify.
Oh, that blank white panel is so frustrating, I feel you! It pops up for me every few months, usually after a big Chrome update.
My quick fix is almost always the same: instead of just reloading the Google Docs tab, I completely close Chrome and restart it. Not just quitting the window, but actually using "Exit" from the menu (or Task Manager on Windows). This seems to clear some deeper cache that a normal reload doesn't touch. If that doesn't work, then I'd move on to the reinstalling step others mentioned.
Let us know if a Chrome restart does the trick for you! If not, there are a few other little permission checks we can walk through.
Measure twice, automate once.
