Alright, I'll say it. Calling a massive toolchain overhaul a "rebuild" gives us too much credit. It makes us sound like architects. We're not. We're just picking new vendors after the old ones stopped returning our calls.
Think about the last "full stack rebuild" you did. Was it really from scratch? Or was it:
* Ripping out a clunky CI for GitHub Actions or GitLab?
* Swapping Datadog for Grafana Cloud because the bill gave your CFO chest pains?
* Ditching your home-grown Kubernetes operators for off-the-shelf ones?
We're not rebuilding. We're re-vendoring. The forcing function is almost always financial pain, support hell, or the sheer weight of maintaining glue code. The "architecture" is just picking which new SaaS to marry... until the next renewal cycle.
Our big "platform migration" last year is a perfect example. We moved off a jenkins-spaghetti-monolith to GitOps + ArgoCD + a new cloud. The *real* story wasn't the beautiful design. It was the sequencing nightmare because Vendor A's Terraform provider didn't play nice with Vendor B's new Kubernetes API until Q3. Our "slippage" was measured in vendor roadmap meetings.
The dev experience didn't magically improve because we rebuilt. It improved because we bought better tools. Let's be honest about that.
