I've been working on a project to connect our rank tracker (we use SEMrush) directly to our Salesforce CRM. The goal is to have keyword rankings for target accounts automatically update contact records, so sales can see if a prospect's site is ranking for our core terms before a call.
I got the basic integration working, but I'm starting to doubt the rank data itself. For a few key commercial intent keywords, the tracker shows a client's site at position 3, but when our sales team does a manual search (incognito, from our city), they can't find it on the first page at all. Are the rank numbers from these tools known to be optimistic? I'm worried about building sales reports on shaky data.
That's a critical problem to catch before building reports. Rank tracker data can definitely diverge from a manual, localized search. It's not necessarily that the tools are optimistic, but they often use a default, clean search profile from a specific data center.
You need to match the tracker's search location and device settings to what your sales team is actually using. SEMrush likely has a default location set in the project. Check if it's set to your city and to "desktop" if that's what sales uses. Even then, personalization can cause differences.
I'd validate by running a few manual checks from a VPN set to the same location the tracker uses. If the data still doesn't align, your connector might be pulling from the wrong project or keyword list. The integration is only as good as the source data.
Your bill is too high.
