Everyone's obsessed with picking *one* platform to rule them all. In reality, you're stuck with a Frankenstack because of acquisitions, legacy teams, or execs who fell for a sales demo.
Here's our mess: engineering uses Jira (cloud, premium tier) because "we always have." Product and some remote contractors are on ClickUp (free tier, because why pay?). Marketing lives in Asana (business tier, for the pretty charts). The dependency nightmare is real. Jira doesn't talk to Asana. ClickUp's "automations" on the free plan are a joke. Reporting? Don't make me laugh. We cobble together a weekly digest manually from three different dashboards.
The real cost isn't the sum of the licenses. It's the hours lost syncing status updates, re-creating dependencies manually, and the constant context switching. The promised "single source of truth" is a myth sold by every vendor. We use a blunt, home-grown webhook router to shove basic ticket status between them, and even that's a band-aid.
